George sees Lula's decision to travel to the Davos Forum as controversial: "I fear many people will be disappointed that virtually his first act as president is to travel a vast distance to join this group. The police won't let Lula's 'real' network, 'his' people, the protesters, get within 500 meters of the conference".

A growing number of activists see President Jose Inácio Lula da Silva’s visit as a sign of the emerging political environment they are prepared to subscribe to, that of engaging with their political opponents to achieve change.
