On Wednesday 22, the World Social Forum's International Council decided that the next Forum, which will take place in January 2004, will be held in India, as predicted. Over the last few days this decision looked doubtful, due to the lack of confirmation of the bid from Indian organizations and mounting pressure for the WSF to continue to be held in Porto Alegre.
One of the main defenders of the proposal to continue holding the WSF in Porto Alegre, is the governor of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, who is pressing for Porto Alegre to be declared the permanent host city for the WSF. In an article published on Tuesday 21 in the daily paper Zero Hora, the governor Germano Rigotto ended by saying: 'we welcome all those arriving for the Forum [...]. Porto Alegre and Rio Grande do Sul hope to welcome you again in 2004'.
The International Council decided that the WSF will return to Porto Alegre, but not until January 2005.
