Reproductive health: US position rejected

The Fifth Asian and Pacific Population Conference concluded with a regional consensus against the US government effort to change existing international commitments to reproductive health rights and services.

All countries excepting the U.S. government have agreed on a Plan of Action on Population and Poverty that addresses population issues as a key contribution to reducing poverty in the region and meeting the United Nations Millennium Development Goal of halving the number of people living on less than US$1 a day by the year 2015.

See report and links from the Asia-Pacific Alliance: Advancing the ICPD Agenda (APA/ICPD), a network of nongovernmental organizations, government agencies, and related groups in the donor countries of the Pacific Rim, whose goal is to strengthen cooperation in support of the population, reproductive health, sustainable development, and other objectives formulated during the International Conference on Population and Development, held in Cairo in 1994.
