IGTN condemns the Israeli attacks against Lebanon, and is in repudiation of this criminal action, which is indiscriminately hitting civil targets. “War on Terror” is not a justification for a policy of collective punishment including the siege of Lebanon, the bombardment of transportation links and the resulting displacement and killing of citizens.
“On July 27, Israeli Justice Minister Haim Ramon said that Israel had given civilians ample time to leave southern Lebanon. “All those now in south Lebanon are terrorists who are related in some way to Hezbollah,” he said, according to the BBC”. This declaration reflects a profound lack of respect for human life, and a conscious will to demoralize, weaken and attack a sovereign state and it’s population.
We call for an immediate ceasefire, as this is the only step possible towards any negotiation and a chance for humanitarian intervention, reconstruction of civilian infrastructure and a general recovery of Lebanon.
We support the call for non-violence of the Lebanese Civil society associations, and other global organizations, which work to make their protest heard and voice their solidarity towards Lebanon and other nations, also target of aggressions in the region.
