This is a collection of articles and reports on the V World Social Forum and its impact on the struggle to building "another possible world".
As the fifth edition of the World Social Forum draws to a close, the largest gathering of social movements so far, analysis and debate is far from being over. People from 135 countries have been involved in 2,500 activities and the total number of participants rose to 155,000. The impact of the annual gathering that has brought together thousands of civil society groups since its first edition in January 2001 has grown enormously, transforming the Forum in a symbolic and mobilising strength in the struggle to make "another world possible"
However, a heated debate has began between those who consider the Forum exclusively as an open space for reflective thinking and those who argue that the WSF should be allowed to assume political positions translating ideas into action.
A 12-point Manifesto was signed the day before the ending of the Forum by 19 intellectuals (now called G-19), issuing 12 poposals to build another possible world. The "Porto Alegre Manifesto" was recieved with unrest by civil society organizations that claim diversity is at the heart of the forum, therefore all opinios should be expressed.
