Joint Submission to the OHCHR on the Human Rights Responsibilities of Business
Source: International Network for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights

We would like to invite you to endorse the Joint Submission to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on the Human Rights Responsibilities of Business. This submission emphasizes the importance of the UN Norms on the Responsibilities of Transnational Corporations and Other Business Enterprises with Regard to Human Rights (UN Norms) and the need to strengthen corporate accountability with regard to human rights.

We are excited and grateful that many of you have offered contributions to a collective report prepared by the International Network for Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (ESCR-Net), which is being sent to OHCHR, while others of you have drafted individual submissions to OHCHR. We are hopeful that all these will contribute to a strong report from OHCHR to the UN Commission on Human Rights in support of the UN Norms. We also encourage you to send any individual submissions to the Corporate Accountability Discussion Group, hosted by ESCR-Net, at escr-corp-accountability@yahoogroups.com. If you are not already a member of this group, you are welcome to join by sending a blank email to ESCR-corp-accountability-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. For an update on ongoing efforts, we encourage you to visit the following sites: ESCR-Net; Amnesty International; and Business and Human Rights Resource Centre.

The Joint Submission with endorsements will be submitted to OHCHR as another statement of support for the UN Norms, and it will ideally provide a basis for ongoing education and advocacy in preparation for the next UN Commission on Human Rights. If you would like to endorse this Joint Submission as an organization, please send your organization’s name, home country, and email address to cgrove@escr-net.org. Or if you would like to endorse as an individual, please send your name, any organizational affiliation, country of residence or work, and email address to the same address. Please include ‘Endorsement’ in the subject line of your message. ESCR-Net will be compiling these endorsements and sending them to OHCHR.

We look forward to working with you in the coming months.
