The 9th Women’s International Solidarity Affair of the Philippines (WISAP)
Declaration of unity and intent: "Women from 12 countries gathered in Manila, the Philippines, from August 17 to August 22, 2004 to commemorate the 9th women’s international solidarity affair and celebrate the 20th year of a relentless struggle waged by GABRIELA Philippines for women’s liberation, national independence and genuine freedom". See full text.

As resolved in the 9th Women's International Solidarity Affair in the Philippines (WISAP) held in Manila, Philippines in August 2004 (*):

The control imposed by US imperialism upon international discourse on women's issues be broken through the simple expedient of holding international women's gatherings, conferences, and meetings such as the UN Commission on Women Meeting in areas outside the territorial and judicial control of the US.

Beijing +10, the ten years of the World Conference of Women, will be held in New York, USA next year as the United States invades our countries, plunders our resources, violates human rights particularly of women around the world. We do not want Beijing+10 to be held in the US. This is a United Nations conference and thus, the UN must come out of the grip of US imperialist dictations.

We want Beijing+10 to be a forum where women of Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine and all the countries who are fighting against US aggression can freely attend and express themselves.

Thus, we demand that Beijing +10 be held outside the US. We must struggle to make women's conferences and gatherings free from US control. We call on our sisters to join us in this demand.

Please sign up and forward to others!

(*) To highlight their 20th anniversary celebration, GABRIELA held the Ninth Women's International Solidarity Affair in the Philippines (WISAP 2004) from 17 to 22 August 2004.

The idea for the WISAP was drawn from the NGO Forum held at the World Conference of Women in Nairobi, Kenya in 1985. WISAP's aim is to become a gathering of women from different countries where solidarity and sisterhood among women working for change are forged and strengthened. GABRIELA has conducted eight WISAP conferences since 1986 covering issues and concerns that affect women and the women's movement.
