WSIS PrepCom3, Geneva, September, 26, 2003
Open Letter from the Civil Society to the President of WSIS PrepCom, Mr. Adama Samassékou on the involvment of Civil Society in the Final Stages of the WSIS Negotiations
Dear Mr. President
The new level of interaction among civil society and governments we have reached during PrepCom3 is a step forward and an achievement in UN negotiation processes. Civil society has made a constructive contribution to the negotiations in the different working bodies during PrepCom3 and is ready to continue with the constructive engagement until the Summit in December 2003 and beyond toward Tunis 2005.
We hope that in the final stage of the negotiations for the Geneva Summit civil society representives from the Civil Society bodies - the CS Bureau (CS-B) and the CS Content & Themes Group (CS-CT) will remain included in an appropriate way to ensure that the final drafts of the WSIS Declaration and the WSIS Plan of Action reflect in a balanced way also the aspirations, ideas and interests of the Civil Society.
We are sure that you will find the relevant mechanisms to promote both the participation and impact of the Civil Society in a possible PrepCom 3bis and to guarantee interaction among civil society and governments until the last day of the preparatory process.
