International Parliamentarians’ Petition for democratic oversight of the IMF and World Bank

Over 1,000 legislators from 50 parliaments around the world have already signed!

On April 15, at the World Bank headquarters in Washington DC, representatives from parliament and civil society organizations involved in this process, submitted a petition before the World Bank and IMF authorities, requesting them to support the initiative aimed at making Parliaments the final arbiters of the economic policies developed in their countries. For such purpose and as mentioned in the petition, it is vital that national parliaments in nations receiving loans from international financial institutions, have the right and obligation to be fully involved in the development and scrutiny of all measures affecting them within their borders, also holding the final power of ratification.
