Restructuring, the IDB’s midlife crisis - Time to guarantee modernization or to modernize guarantees?
It is rumored that the new president of the IDB will unveil a bold plan for re-structuring the institution. Insiders report that the plan will “streamline” the loan preparation process, seen by many at the IDB as being too slow and costly. Critics fear that it will remove the few social and environmental safeguards currently employed by the bank, and reduce its capacity to insure sustainable outcomes from its lending.
