World Summit on the Information Society II: 3rd Preparatory meeting - September 2005

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) aims to improve access by all countries to information, and communication technologies (ICTs) to promote development. Representatives from governments, the private sector and civil society gathered in the Third Preparatory Comittee (PrepCom3) for the second phase of the WSIS to be held November 2005 in Tunis. PrepCom3 took place in Geneva from 19 to 30 September 2005 in order to gear up for the final stage of the Summit.

Tunisia: on eve of information summit, UN rights expert calls for prisoner release
Citing reported violations of freedom of opinion and expression in Tunisia as the North African country prepares to host the World Summit on the Information Society next month, a United Nations human rights expert has called on the Government to release unconditionally all press- and opinion-related prisoners.
