Making literacy a priority - Tue Oct 07 2008
The Latin America and the Caribbean regional conference in preparation for the Sixth International Conference on Adult Education (CONFINTEA VI) took place 10-13 September 2008 in Mexico City. The final document of the conference states that literacy is a starting point, but is by no means enough, and that the region must put in practice a broader vision of adult education that includes formal education at the same time as it recognizes and validates acquired learning throughout life: in the family, in the community, at work, through communication and the media, social participation and by the very exercise of citizenship.
