India: role of the National Human Rights Comission questioned

This article shows how limited can be the action of human rights commissions setup by the government in India. It deals with the unsolved case of a journalist murder that involves one of the most powerful Police officers and a high-ranking politician. Vineeta Gupta, member of Insaaf, an Indian NGO, claims that the National Human Rights Commission of India (NHRC) suffers from an incomplete understanding of its purpose.
