Special High-level Meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) with the Bretton Woods institutions, the World Trade Organization and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on Monday, 18 April 2005 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Following Monterrey, the spring meetings of ECOSOC have gained greater importance in the multilateral efforts to pursue development goals.

Summary of the Kofi Annan statement
Annan pointed out the need to follow guidelines that would contribute to development, such as for example that donor countries reached 0.7 per cent of their GDP, as it was agreed in Monterrey; to fulfil the commitments undertaken at the Ministerial Conference in Doha (2001).

Following the provisions set forth in the Monterrey Consensus, the ECOSOC spring meetings promote multilateral efforts aimed at fulfilling the millennium goals. This year in particular, the meeting has gained a special significance, since it is the first of a series of events aimed at contributing to the production of input and specific proposals to be put forward this year at the September Summit.
