The Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) was created in December 1992 to ensure effective follow-up of the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD); to monitor and report on implementation of the Earth Summit agreements at the local, national, regional and international levels. Delegates from the 9 Major Groups: women, youth, indigenous peoples, farmers, NGOs, trade unions, local authorities, science and technology, and the private sector gathered from 11-22 April 2005 for the 13th session of the Comission on Sustainable Development (CSD-13) which took place in New York. Discussions focused on three major issues for developing countries: water, sanitation, and human settlements.
