Multilateral Development Banks Energy Project (MDB)
The MDB-Energy Project was initiated by a group of 21 NGOs from Latin America, Africa, Asia and Central & Eastern Europe. The overall goal of the project is to make a long term contribution to efforts that reorient the energy sector investments of the MDBs towards sustainable energy.
Sustainable Energy and Economy Network (SEEN)
A project of the Institute for Policy Studies (Washington, DC) and the Transnational Institute (Amsterdam), SEEN works in partnership with citizens groups nationally and globally on environment, human rights and development issues with a particular focus on energy, climate change, environmental justice, and economic issues, particularly as these play out in North/South relations.

In the recent past there has been an ever-increasing body of scientific evidence pointing to the harmful effects of large dams on the environment. The social problems associated with extensive dam networks such as the Narmada Valley Development Project are, to put it mildly, enormous. Instead, we must look for alternative means of energy which fit into the larger framework of sustainable development. Microhydel power generation is one such alternative.
